Monumental archeological cities, colonial cities and splendid natural wonders.

Cancun is the opening door to the Mayan World, it presents monumental archeological places, interesting colonial cities and splendid natural wonders, such as an incomparable view of the mountains and volcanoes that can be observed from Chiapas and Guatemala highlands, where the etnic groups are our alive culture. 

Archeological Places

Archeological places are all over Cancun. some of this little places are located within the golf course Pok Ta Pok, while others are located in the hotel area, for example: “San Miguelito” and “Yumil Lu’um”.

The biggest places, El MEco and El Rey, are located also within this area. El Meco was opened to the public on april 1st, 2001 and it is located 6 kilometers north Cancun by the Punta Sam highway. It has a central square, temples and walls covered in stucco. 

On the other side, El Rey was an ancient mayan city that was developed during the post-classical period, between the years 1200 and 1521.The place is formed by 47 structures and it’s located on the hotel area, between Nichupte Lagoon and Delfines Beach. 

Interactive aquarium

This Interactive Aquarium “museum” that is located in Plaza La Isla mall, is the first type of museum in Latin America and has several fish tanks that show all types of varieties of fishes and corals from the caribbean. In this same mall you can find Pelopidas Museum, a multidisciplinary space to enjoy plastic arts. It has a permanent collection of author fakes, 131 pieces of impressionist and neo impressionist masters, european and american. It is also the platform for well known artists and new talents, national and international. 

There are 4 museums in the hotel area. The first one is the Archeological Cancun Museum, which is located next to the convention center. This museum is operated by the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH), History and anthropology national institute and has an exhibition of original artifacts found in several excavations done in several prehispanic settlements. 

The fourth one is the Popular Art Mexican Museum, in the Embarcadero complex, located at the KM 4 of the Kukulkan Boulevard next to the Cancun theater. This museum highlights the diversity in crafts around Mexico.

Mayan Museum

The mayan museum has more than 350 archeological objects, it has three display rooms, one for temporary exhibitions and two for permanent ones. The second room shows the cultural diversity in Mexico like sculptures and architectural elements.  

The museum has accessibility for special capacities people, and has a store/library, cafeteria and educational services.

MUSA

The subaquatic museum is located in the waters around Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Punta Nizuc. 

It has more than 400 sculptures and artistic work, national and international. This museum is one of the greatest subaquatic attractions around the world.  

MUSA promotes art and environment preservation.
